July 2011 Garden Party
We at Manor Lodge are ecstatic with the £1803.00 that was raised for our chosen charity Hospice Care of Exmouth at our annual garden party late July 2011. The attendance was well in excess of 200 people and the whole day was blessed with fine weather. We thank the Mayor of Exmouth Sandy Sutton with the amiable support of the deputy Mayor John Humphries. Once again the games, teas, cakes, jams, barbecue all with home made burgers and entertainment went down really well...

Hundreds enjoy glorious garden party at Manor Lodge
Charity Garden Party at Manor LodgeThe residents and staff of Manor Lodge have raised £1,900 for their chosen charities with a successful garden part held in the grounds. The 2010 event was opened by the Mayor of Exmouth, Darryl Nicholas, who won a champagne breakfast for four in the raffle. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed the games, food, stalls and music at the party in glorious sunshine in the gardens of the residential care home in Portland Avenue, Exmouth. The proceeds went to the residents’ chosen charity Hospiscare, which provides hospice beds and offers a variety of care services including home-nursing to patients in Devon. The residents also decided to give a donation to the Help For Heroes charity, which provides care and support for service people injured in recent conflicts. The garden party at Manor Lodge in July featured music from the Accordionettes and stalls from the event’s charity partners, as well as crafts and books. There was plenty of good food to choose from, all homemade at Manor Lodge, including teas, cakes, jams and chutneys, and a barbecue with freshly-made burgers. Visitors enjoyed having a go at the classic garden party game stalls, including hoopla, Pick a Duck, Pull My String and a tombola. Manor Lodge proprietor Georgina Kerler-Lovegrove said: “The residents and staff enjoyed the preparations, and we got a lot of help from within the community. “It was a lovely day and we all enjoyed receiving so many visitors, including friends and relatives of our residents and staff, and many people from the local community. We were thrilled to have raised a good sum for the charities chosen by the residents.”

Growing success for the gardens team at Manor Lodge
Growing SuccessThe residents and staff of Manor Lodge residential home are proud of their success in the Britain in Bloom awards. The grounds of the home in Portland Avenue, Exmouth, have been judged the winner of the residential home section in the 2010 Exmouth in Bloom competition. The home employs two gardeners, but many of the residents also enjoy volunteering their help with the care of the plants and shrubs, with the assistance of care home staff where necessary. And everyone’s efforts have paid off again with Manor Lodge’s seventh successive victory in the awards. Proprietor Georgina Kerler-Lovegrove said: “Our gardens are a wonderful resource, carefully designed with decking and laid out in such a way that the residents can go for a walk or sit out and enjoy the good weather. “The gardens are south-facing and secluded, offering a peaceful and secluded oasis of calm, in wonderful surroundings. “The residents take great pleasure in seeing the gardens looking so good. The gardens help to provide a lovely atmosphere for the home and also contribute towards a good working environment for our staff. “We find the residents enjoy helping out with gardening tasks. Some have a little patch or tubs to tend outside their patio doors. “Many have had beautiful gardens in the past and have a lot of knowledge, so they enjoy identifying the plants and pointing out when work needs doing, such as pruning or dead-heading, and some are keen to do a little bit of gardening.” The residents used the gardens for a sponsored walk to raise money for the Beacon Primary School. Local pupils visit at Christmas to perform a carol concert at the residential home, so the residents decided to raise the money as a thank-you.
